Howdy Marilyn!

Here is the Beverly Restored map. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1UcialvM1Heg1BI8_o30Uw9GLBSQLUHz0&usp=sharing

I have left the services at Vantage in; if you think that is unnecessary I can take it out.

I show a possible primitive camp area at Breeden Falls on BLM land just east of the intersection with the Columbia Plateau Trail. If this is inappropriate I can remove it.

Slime, yes, well acquainted with it. A dry tube will take a lot of patches, but you can't really patch a slimed tube. It is hard to trust a tube with sealant, you can keep pumping it up, but the sealant wears out and you have to replace the tube. So you go through a lot of tubes anyway. Patching is less wasteful, but it is becoming a lost art! Then there are a lot of fat tire and mountain bike folks who use tubeless, and usually it is very hard to get air in them once the bead is broken (some riders of the CPT swear by tubeless because of the ballast rocks, you can smooth the ride with lower air pressure). The performance of solid tires is very poor. Flat tires are the bane of cycling, the frames and components on bikes are so robust now that mechanical failure is much less common than back in the day. Are we to be cursed forever?

2021

November. The Snoqualmie Tunnel at Hyak is closed for the season. It reopens in early May, date dependent on weather conditions.

October. Work on the Beverly Bridge continues, with hopes that a soft opening will be possible later in 2021. Railings need to be installed and the bridge is currently unsafe to cross and closed to the public. A Grand Opening is tentatively planned for sometime in 2022.

September. Work begins on the spectcular Tekoa Trestle. This will close another trail gap at the eastern end of the PTCT, near the Idaho border.

August. Work on the Beverly Bridge project was interrupted on August 3, when a construction worker on the project suffered a fatal fall. In light of this, as well as fire and smoke warnings over the summer and varying COVID Delta conditions, the Beverly Bridge Grand Opening Event scheduled for September 13 has been postponed. (Read more about the Beverly Bridge here).

May 24. The Renslow Bridge is now open for nonmotorized use.  Spanning I-90 east of Kittitas, this closes the last large trail gap west of the Columbia River.

2020

October 5-7. New kiosks and historic station signs were installed at Lind, Ralston, and Revere in eastern WA, by the John Wayne Pioneer Wagons and Riders, the Cascade Rail Foundation and the Palouse to Cascades Trail Coalition.

September 7. A rapid moving wildfire devastated the trail towns of Malden and Pine City in eastern Washington, destroying trestles on the trail, and closing the trail between Malden and Pine City. (See detour required).

2019

July 18. The Washington State Parks Commission approved leasing management of the Beverly Bridge and about 40 miles of the PTCT from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The lease allows Washington State Parks to take over management of the entire trail.

June 3-6. The Grant County 243 Command Fire engulfed approximately 20,000 acres along Lower Crab Creek, crossed the PTCT, and destroyed a historic wooden trestle crossing the creek. (See maps for detour).

May 8. Cle Elum: The national Rails-toTrails Conservancy celebrated the "Big Reveal" of their preferred route for
the
Great American Rail-Trail, which will include the Palouse to Cascades Trail and connect nearly 4,000 miles of rail-trails and other multiuse trails across 12 states and Washington, D.C.

April 28. PTCT and Beverly Bridge receive funding in the Washington State 2019-2021 Capital Budget. On Sunday 4/28/19 the Washington State Legislature passed the Capital Budget for 2019-2021, which included funding for tree projects on the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail - the Beverly Bridge, Malden to Rosalia trail development, and the Tekoa Trestle.
